this study indicates that in order to optimise maternal and infant health outcome, Australia antenatal care providers and services need to incorporate both the recommendation and delivery of influenza and, in the probable near future, pertussis, vaccination into routine antenatal care. This will require upskiling of midwifery,obstetric and management staff in all aspects of immunisation, including vaccine ordering, storage, administration and reporting. Inclusion of influenza vaccination in the recently published national woman-held pregnancy record is a very promising first step.
