5. Conclusion
Apparent digestibility of fat and protein in salmon feed can be
monitored in commercial salmon farms using crude fiber as a marker.
Overall, the results showed that fat and protein digestibility was high
with a trend for increased fat digestibility during the study period.
Based on the apparent digestibility of fat and protein, the DE and DP
of the feed were realized and compared to the optimized DE and DP
in a specific feed. By monitoring digestibility, DE, and DP in feed, it is
possible to reveal factors associated with feed performance and hence
there is potential of improvement in growth efficiency and feed
conversion.
