1. When Terry Fox was eighteen, he got very sick. He had to go hospital in Winnipeg, Canada. His doctors said he had cancer. Cancer is a dangerous disease. The doctors told Terry they had to amputate his right leg. This means they had to cut off his leg. But the doctors gave Terry anew leg made of metal and plastic. Terry had to learn to walk again.
2. Two years later, Terry wanted to help the hospital and other people with cancer. He wanted to make some money for them. So he decided to run across Canada. Terry said he was going to run from Newfoundland in the east to Vancouver in the west. That is 8,529 kilometres! He asked people to help by giving money.
