Conclusion
Conducting research in LMICs is complex, as shown by
the numerous real-world examples provided by four
nurse investigators who completed studies in diverse
cultural contexts using various methodological
approaches. Key lessons learned include advance
planning, remaining flexible, having a backup plan(s),
cultivating an attitude of curiosity and cultural
humility, establishing respectful relationships with
local collaborators, and allowing adequate time for all
aspects of the studydfrom start to finish. Respectful
collaborations are especially crucial for success
and require engaging local/host partners early in
study planning, sharing findings and authorship
opportunities, and appreciating cultural differences
