A Pd/TiO2–CS photocatalyst was successfully prepared. The prepared
composite was characterized by XRD, TEM, UV–Vis, Pl, and
BET. The Pd/TiO2–CS composite showed nanosized dimensions, relatively
uniform and of dispersed homogeneity. The addition of CS
played a promoting role in the process of crystallization and preventing
the agglomeration in the calcination process. Pd/TiO2–CS
photocatalyst can be used effectively for MB dye photocatalytic
degradation under visible light irradiation. It was observed that
the photocatalytic process followed the first-order kinetics model.
The optimization of reaction conditions led to the conclusion that
Pd/TiO2–CS and the use of 0.75 g of the catalyst in a 500 ml,
75 mg/L MB dye solution yielded 99.5% degradation of the MB
dye within 30 min of irradiation with visible light. The results of
catalyst re-use revealed that the present photocatalyst remains
effective and active after six cycles, which indicates the promising
recyclability of the Pd/TiO2–CS photocatalyst.
