City of Austin PV300: In 1987, a 300 kW single crystal silicon PV plant was designed and built by ARCO Solar Inc. for the city of Austin, Texas. The total array area is 2620 m2 and the modules are mounted on one-axis (N-S) trackers (see Fig. 6). The design rating of the plant was 272 kW (a.c.) and the measured rating is 250 kW at standard operating conditions of 46.7” C and 1 kW/m2. In 1990, the plant produced 281 200 kWh (ax.); during this same period, the plant had a total of only 18.7 hours of downtime. The plant is owned by the city and is connected to its distribution system [25].
