However, making a brass handicraft requires many steps to perfect it. Each has been passed from generation to generation to conserve their owa’unique style. Ban Pa Ao’s handicraftment use the traditional way of casting metnod that can be found only in Thailand and a few countries throughout the country. So,in this issue, Kued Hod will take you to take a closer look at how to make an exquisite brass handicraft in Ban Pa Ao.
The first step is “soil preparation.” The method is to mix grinded termite hill with dung and husk. Then cast it to make a model. After that, use the stick piercing into the model to make the handle. Finally dry it out. After the model being dry,the second step is to lathe the mold until reaching the exact pattern or style. The third step is to use beeswax draping round the mold. Heat the mold up, then, level it. ( This process has the same method used as thesecond step.) The fourth step is the pattern creation. It is consider the most essential step to originate each delicate work. After having the proper design, the next step is to attach the fuse into the mold and glue beeswax onto its edge so to let metal liquid flow through it during the burning process. The fifth step is to wrap the mold with soil mixed with dung its fuse wire. The following step is to use soil mixed husk covering the mold in order to make it as the base. The seventh step is to place a crucible upside down into the kiln to let the melting beeswax, as mentioned earlier, does its work. The other crucial step is to pour melting brass into the crucible when it is in high temperature, otherwise it will be imperfect. After it is cold, hit the mold to separate the soil from the crucible and wash it. The final step of making the handicraft is to decorate and polish it. As you can see, the reason why Ban Pa Ao’s brass handicraft is considered precious and valuable is because in their every making step, it does not require only expertise and long-term experiences but also care to create and present such an exquisite brass handicraft into public eyes and the world.
