Osaka Gas Engineering Co. (OGE) operates energy engineering projects in both Japan and
abroad, with sufficient expertise as an operating arm of Osaka Gas Co., Ltd., the gas
supplier in the Kansai region centered in Osaka Japan's second largest economic area.
Our company starts a feasibility study GS) for consideration on potentials of 'Bio-coke'
production business in Thailand. The Bio'coke is a new type of solid fuel that is produced
with plant-derived wastes (biomass) by applying certain pressure and heat. It can be used
as a substitute for coal'coke in casting industry and recarburizer in steel industry, which
has already been demonstrated in Japan. We assume that production cost of Bio'coke in
Thailand would be at the same level as coal coke, taking into account availability and
procurement cost of local biomass resourees (raw materials of the Bio'coke). For your
information, the OGE has already launched a Bio-coke project in Malaysia by introducing
Bio'coke production facilities, exploring potential of commercial operation.
We believe the Bio-coke technology will make significant contribution to fight against
global warming. The Government of Japan promotes exports of Japan's superior
environmental technologies to overseas countries as its policy, and in this regard, the OGE
receives government supports for this Bio'coke FS. Furthermore, this FS is conducted in
cooperation with Professor Tamio Ida of Kinki University who has innovated the Bio'coke
as well as Mizuho Information & Research Institute, Inc., an environment &
energy consultancy with good experiences on environment businesses.
As a part of basic researches under the FS, we would like to visit you for information
during our stay in Thailand on November l7 - 19. Together with our partners,
Kinki University and Mizuho we will provide you some explanations on Bio-coke, hoping
in turn to learn about potential for biomass supply in your operation and sales conditions.
We all expect to establish a good relationship with you, which will benefit both sides as well
as allow, us to cooperate toward global warming prevention-
Topics for information exchange
1. Outline of Bio-coke (explanations to your association)
2. Current situation of quantity of biomass output and usage in your operation (questions
to your association)
3. Term and conditions of your industry for sale of biomass (questions to your association)
