Given this set of circumstances, it is clear that much research is still needed on how highquality teachers may be identified, recruited, and retained.Seeking out and compensatingteachers solely on the basis of education and experience (above the first few years) is unlikelyto yield large increases in teacher quality, though currently this is common practice. Findingalternative sources of information on teacher quality may be crucial to the creation of effectivepolicies to raise student achievement.
