3. The most misleading of all the formulations of this kind is "To me it's true , to you it may not be. What does it mean to say "To me it's true?" Perhaps it just means "It's true according to me"-that is, "I believe it's true. But this, as we have seen, is quite compatible with the statement's actually being false. If all you mean is that you believe it's true, then why not say just that, instead of generating confusion by saying "To me it's true"? Perhaps the answer is that this last formulation makes it sound as if it is true and that your believing it guarantees it.
