The MAX603/604 can provide up to 500 mA of current and can operate from an input voltage of between +2.7 V and +11.5 V DC. They have built-in protection in case you inadvertently switch power and ground and consume as little as 15 mA of current for their own use. As such, they are ideal for use in low-power, embedded computers. The schematic for using a voltage regulator such as a MAX603 or a MAX604 is shown in Figure 5-6. In this case, the input supply is a battery, but it could just as easily be a DC plug pack or some other sort of supply.
