In the Czech Republic, the mandatory procedure in case of
mining activities is divided into two separate stages – the first one
concerns designating a mining area, and the second one extraction
itself. The EIA procedure is applied for any newly designated
mining area regardless of the type of minerals. Then the size of
production is evaluated. The planned mining projects with production
exceeding 1 million t/year will require the EIA. At a request
of the investor, the EIA may cover both stages simultaneously
e.g. designation of mining area and production.
