Phra Khanajarn Chin Thammapanyajariyaporn, also deputy monk chief of the Chinese Mahayana Buddhist Monk Council, had earlier sought treatment for his illness at Bangkok Hospital. He died peacefully at 2.07am on Sunday, Thai media reported.
The bathing rite of the abbot will be held at 5pm at Wat Mangkon Kamalawat in Pomprap Sattruphai district.
Born in Yannawa district of Bangkok, Phra Khanajarn Chin Thammapanyajariyaporn entered the monkhood in 1959 at Wat Pho Yen in Kanchanaburi’s Tha Maka district.
The monk had strictly followed dharma principles and devoted himself to Buddhism. He had taught novices and monks for over 15 years and gained respect from many monks and Buddhists.
