Oxygen consumption rates were measured for juvenileS. verreauxi,
ranging in body mass from 7 g to 131 g DM. Juvenile
_ MO2was measured in an intermittentflow respirometer system which consisted of
0.95 L (for 7 g DM lobsters), 3.55 L (for 56 and 123 g DM lobsters), or
10.4 L (for 331 g DM lobsters) respirometry chambers. Oyster mesh
(5 mm mesh size) wasfitted to the lower half of the respirometry
chambers so that lobsters had traction on an otherwise smooth surface
and could remain quiescent
