Many people have asked me how I learned Thai. The short answer is I’ve been practicing my listening, speaking, reading, and writing every day for almost 9 years. It’s not a secret. Everybody should know that learning a language isn’t based on sheer talent. On the contrary, it takes a lot of time and effort. Some can learn faster than others, but ultimately anybody who really devotes themselves and doesn’t give up will end up acquiring the language. I’d like to encourage all of you learners out there to keep going! Sooner or later you’ll get the language so long as you practice consistently for a long time. How long? Well, that depends on the person. For me, it took about 6 months before I felt like I could communicate confidently. Nevertheless, I’ve never been satisfied with my Thai. To this day, I still strive to improve because I know that learning a language is an ongoing process.
