After obtaining parental consent and
child assent, children wore Actigraph
GT33+ accelerometers (Actigraph.
Pensacola, FL) on their right hip by
using an adjustable belt during child
care time on observation days. The
research assistant placed the belt on
the children soon after they arrived at
the center and removed it at pick up,
and this information was used to
determine accelerometer wear time.
The Actigraph has been validated and
calibrated for use among children.25
Data were collected in 15-second
epochs, which is the current standard
for preschool-aged children. Timestamped
accelerometer data were
scored as sedentary, light, and
moderate-to-vigorous (MVPA) by
using Pate criteria.
