A floor-by-floor breakdown of each facility illustrates the impact sanitation has on the distribution of pest insects in these facilities (Fig. 3). Each floor in Facility A had similar levels of insect infestation, which when analyzed through a Chi-square Goodness-of-Fit test, suggests an evenly-dispersed population (X2(2,N=4) = 0.41, P = 0.522). In Facility B, trap capture rates on the second, third, and fourth floors were significantly higher than other floors in year one. A second round of monitoring the following year again showed that the third and fourth floors had higher average trap capture rates than the lower floors ( Fig. 4). Survey responses from the facility managers indicated that both monitor for insect populations only on the first floor of their respective facilities. Since the trap capture rates are evenly distributed throughout the facility, monitoring on the first floor would provide a reasonable estimate of pest populations in Facility A.
