1. The term mathematical activities in the Course of Study ( hereafter referred to as CS ) first appeared in the objectives of mathematics in the junior high school mathematics. CS revised in 1999 in the context “students know the enjoyment of mathematical activities” (Table 1 ) Mathematical activities were conceptualized as activities in which students should develop mathematics in their own creative ways, rather than by learning established mathematics. The term “enjoyment” of mathematical activities suggested that students should not only take pleasure in activities but should also appreciate learning mathematics through their intellectual growth in these activities. Thus, the phrase “enjoyment of mathematical activities” aimed to both motivate students to learn mathematics and emphasize the importance of the process of learning mathematics.
