A true friend is sincere. That means he or she holds genuine warmth for you. He or she doesn't seek your friendship with some ulterior motivation or for some personal gain. Your should be founded on a mutual respect and esteem and there should be honesty between you and your friend. A friend gives his or her honest opinion when asked for it and if or the friendship is strong enough, the truth won't shake it. Therefore, flattery is unnecessary. He or she is someone you can trust with your secrets, your feelings. and even your possessions. In a good friendship there is a sense mutual devotion or concern for each other's well-being. A true friend is not someone you would want to hurt or would ever want to see hurt by others.
