Laboratory fish rearing systems include static aquaria, flow-through, closed water recirculating, ponds or lakes, and
a net or cage placed in a body of water (Schreck and Moyle 1990; Moe 1992). The first two methods are commonly used
in fish research laboratories. Although flow-through systems have many advantages and are recommended, they are
very expensive to set up and maintain. In the closed water system, which is more practical, water management is crucial.
