MSUD and it's treatments didn't just come out of no where. Let's take a brief look at the history of MSUD.
MSUD was first identified in 1954 when a family with 4 affected newborns who had an unusual but interesting substance in their urine.
A couple years later in the early 1960’s, some other investigators looked more into MSUD and found out what it was and how it occurred.
Soon after, in London other doctors Charles Dent and R. Westall tried to find a cure to MSUD. After his special formula was accepted, they could successfully my mixtures of amino acids without MSUD with it.
Around the same time, a little sick boy in Oregon was fortunately tested for MSUD using Robert Guthrie’s new Guthrie test. First it was used for PKU(a similiar disease) and then MSUD. His famous proposal for Newborn Screening for all babies has impacted countries and states today
