Most of these methods suffer power loss either due to reduction of volumetric efficiency or due to additional power required for pumping of alcohol or due to late participation of alcohol in combustion. In order to avert these problems the authors located a needle in the heat exchanger very near to the intake mainfold and methanol was inducted continuously and all these works were carried out without changing any parameters of the engine.
This paper presents the experimental investigations carried on a diesel engine using methahol as an supplimentary fuel and ethylene glycol dimethyl ether as a fuel additive. Due to poor self ignition temperature and high latent heat of evaporation of methanol the ignition improver is added to the methanol. A waste heat recovery heat exchanger is provided to pre-heat the inlet air by exhaust gases. The inlet air temperature slightly increases with the help of heat exchanger.
