I do not write the actual code at work. Well, I used to do that for a few other applications at work, but no longer. Now I just write demands, stating what functionality I want to have in the program.
In a way this is actually even more time consuming. My line managers can only define what they need in the vaguest sense. At the same time, the programmers in India requires everything specified into the tinest detail. In the end I found out that I had to draw pictures of everything. Sign-language is the only language that both sides appear to understand.
Still, I do enjoy it. I find it can be really rewarding. It is a bit like using your brain to solve a really tricky problem, where you know when you got the right solution when the result is elegant, simple and appreciated by everyone.
God natt / god morgon.
