A 19-week field study was conducted at the Experimental Station of Centro de Estudios Superiores del Estado de Sonora (CESUES), (111° 08′
West longitude and 28° 18′ North latitude) in Sonora state (north of Hermosillo), Northwestern Mexico, from August 4 to December 12, 2008. Three circular tanks (6 m in diameter) covered with liner (1.5 mm high density polyethylene) were used for the study. The tanks had a water depth of 1.1 m and a volume of 31 m
per tank. The volume of water used was calculated based on the dimensions of the shrimp tanks and the total initial and supplemental supply. Supplemental water was used to maintain the tank levels, which was determined by the consumption of the tomato plants and the evaporation rates in the region. The supplemental water was equivalent to volume of tank close to 1%. Finally, the water use was estimated by consi
