The work of the Commission as well as the procedure for approval of university scientific and instructional literature is proscribed by the Commission Rules of procedure.
There are no written rules about the categorization (type), and a book that belongs to the category of manuscripts is recommended by reviewers (at least three).
Their proposal is considered by the Commission, while the final decision is made by the Senate. The Commission decides on all the scientific and instructional areas, as well as art, and at this point its standpoint is that it is impossible to provide satisfactory definitions that would cover all literature.
Categorization is determined for every course, taking into consideration how much instructional literature there is for a certain course, how comprehensive are the presentation, theoretical tenets etc.
The most important criterion is the reviewers' recommendation.
The Commission for Scientific and Instructional Literature approves of the following categories:
textbook, mimeographed course materials, reference book, problem book
