Ecdysteroids. Ecdysteroids are the primary hormonal factors
involved in molting and also have regulatory roles in reproduction
and embryogenesis (reviewed by Stowasser, 2008; Subramoniam,
2000). Ecdysteroids are under the inhibitory control of MIH and stimulatory
control bymethyl farnesoate (MF). Vitellogenesis-inhibiting hormone
(VIH), another neuropeptide synthesized in the eyestalks inhibits
vitellogenin synthesis whereas the mandibular organ-inhibiting hormone
(MOIH) inhibits secretion of methyl farnesoate (MF), which
may stimulate vitellogenesis and Y-organ ecdysteroid secretion. A coordinated
