certifies
the
high
level
of
reprocessability
of
LDPE
(i.e.,

decay

mechani-
cal
properties

function
of
the
number
of
reprocessing
cycles).
For
LDPE/TPS
blends
submitted
to
5
and
10
cycles
of
extrusion,
a
reduction
of
7%
and
9%,
respectively,
was
observed
in
the
elongation
at
break
when
compared
to
the
original
blend.
The
LDPE/TPS
blend
submitted
to
10
extrusion
cycles
also
exhibited
a
small
increase
in
the
elastic
modulus
and
mechanical
strength.
These
small
changes
in
the
mechanical
properties
due
to
the
larger
number
of
extrusion
cycles
may
be
related
to
a
thermo-oxidative
degradation
that
can
occur,
particularly
in
the
thermoplastic
starch-rich
phases.
How-
ever,
note
that
the
refining
of
the
microstructure
of
the
blends
(reduction
in
the
average
size
of
the
thermoplastic
starch-rich
phase)
observed
in
Fig.
1
during
the
sequence
of
multiple
extru-
sions
may
have
contributed
to
the
improvement
of
the
properties
mechanical
properties

for
LDPE
were
