The therapeutic activities of this plant are attributed to andrographolide and
related diterpens, i.e. dexoyandrographolide, 14-deoxy-11,12-
didehydroandrographolide and neo-andrographolide. Modern
pharmacological studies indicate that andrographolide protects
the liver and gallbladder, and has been found to be slightly more
active than Silymann, a known hepatoprotective drug
