In this report, we studied the structural properties of 20CaO–30ZnO–(x)B2O3–(50x)P2O5 (0 6 x 6 50) and luminescence properties of the Mn2+ ions in the 20CaO–30ZnO–20B2O3–30P2O5 (CaZnBP) host system. The concentration of Mn2+ ions in the glass system is chosen to be 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mol%. We reported the investigation of this glass system using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) and photoluminescence (PL) technique. Limited studies of borophosphate glasses doped with transition metals ions were reported [35,23] with only Mn2+ ions
doping of more than 5 mol%. Our research, thus, wish to providenew information in this glass system by addressing the shortcomings. The aims of the study are to (i) determine the vibrational modes in the glass system through FT-IR spectra; (ii) study the luminescence properties of the glass system with different concentration of Mn2+ ions; and (iii) finally determine the decay time of the glass system.
