A survey performed by the AHA Wireless Medical Telemetry Task Force revealed that a wide variety of parameters would be monitored via telemetry if the technology to do so were available. In recognition of these needs, the definition and service rules adopted in the creation of WMTS allows for innovative use. Therefore, the ongoing monitoring phase of the risk management process will include a re-evaluation of the risk based on the changes in the intended use of telemetry. For example, if telemetry were used to monitor fetal heart rate on an ambulating expectant mother, and that monitoring indicated fetalheart decelerations, the level of risk to the patient could be higher than for a typical ambulatory cardiac patient.
