the genus Pezosiren was an early group of sirenian (manatees and Dugongs). they lived around 50 million years ago. they looked basically like an manatee with legs and a longer tail. they probably lived similarly to modern hippopotamuses. they were probably an important evolutionary stepping stone for the transition from land to water for sirenians. they were discovered in 2001 by a paleontologist at Howard University the species was dubbed P.portelli
