The deacidification of rice bran oil by liquid–liquid extraction
decreased the acidity considerably and also led to the removal of
undesirable compounds, such as phospholipids. It was observed
that the neutral oil and nutraceutical compound losses were significantly
lower than those reported in the literature for alkali or
steam refining, showing that this alternative process can enable
the production of more nutritious, ‘‘green seal’’-labeled rice bran
oil that is free of harmful chemicals.
