For new Bi-Metal Bandsaw and Carbide blades, they MUST be run-in before full production can begin; this is to strengthen and distress the blades this can increase blade life
by 25-50%. This is done by reducing the cutting speed and feed rate of the blade to 40% - 50% of the normal cutting rate during the run-in period. This is done for 20 to 30
minutes, then increase the feed rate and band speed in small steps over the next 30 minutes until the normal cutting rate is achieved. To ensure effective penetration in hard
materials you may need to apply more feed and a faster cut than described above. If in doubt, check with your manager.
