Conclusions
This study reflected on the vital role of nursing leadership
and highlights the need for nursing leadership to
undertake reflection and self evaluation, by seeking the
nursing staff perceptions of their leadership actions and
practices. Although, majority of the nursing staff share
positive perceptions about nursing leadership, efforts
should made to identify those nursing leadership practices,
as they are powerful predictors of nursing staff
work performance. The result of our study emphasized
the importance of involving nurses in decision making
in the nursing process and giving them feedback and
rewards.
Nursing staff need feedback opportunities because
they have different opinions and abilities as individuals.
Ascertaining the opinions of the staff and involving
them in decision making would reinforce demonstrated
good practice. The anonymous evaluation of nursing
leadership is an effective tool by which nurses perceptions
are gathered. Knowledge of the leadership practices
identified would help to create the favourable
working environment needed for improved performance
of nursing staff.
