Vanguarda Agro is a joint-stock company founded in Brazil. In November of 2006, it was designated a publicly held company by the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM). On November 10, 2006, the Company held its initial public offering.
Vanguarda Agro was created through the merger of three companies: Brasil Ecodiesel, Maeda Agroindustrial (merged in December of 2010), and Vanguarda Participações (merged in September of 2011). These latter two companies were true agricultural firms and their acquisition capped off the Company’s strategy of adopting a new business model focused on the production of grains and fibers. The transformation of its operations and consequent name change to Vanguarda Agro S.A. took place on October 10, 2011.
As a result of its decision to focus on grain production, the Company initiated an ongoing plan to divest itself of assets associated with biodiesel production in order to concentrate all of its efforts on reallocating resources to the development of its agricultural operations.
With more than 253.5 thousand hectares under management, Vanguarda Agro became one of the largest company in Brazil in terms of land area under management, in addition to becoming one of the largest producers of grains and fibers in the country listed on the Novo Mercado segment of the BM&FBovespa under the VAGR3 symbol.
The Company’s ownership structure is widely dispersed, with a majority of shares held by Brazilian investors.
