Participants were divided into three groups; one group per system.
All three groups were given verbal instructions to use a systematic search strategy to search for a specified target. The first group was given only this information.
The second group was given verbal instructions as well as presented with a static graphic overlay which presented the search strategy in a way such that the user could view the item to be inspected as well as the path which they were to take to inspect the item.
The third group was presented with a dynamic overlay system in addition to verbal instruction. The dynamic overlay was similar to the static overlay, with the addition of a means to guide the user along the search path at the proper
speed.
