- The outcome of this workshop laid the foundation for and gave direction to a number of projects carried out by ICRAF.
- The publication of an elaborate "Multipurpose Tree and Shrub Seed Directory" [8] and the development of a "Rapid Appraisal Methodology for Selecting Priority Species" [4] are direct spin-offs from the workshop and its recommendations.
- The most significant activity towards the creation of an information system for woody perennials is the development,
- constant expansion,
- reconstruction and refinement of a Multipurpose Tree and Shrub Data Base.
- Apart from its direct outputs and services in support of ICRAF's internal and external research and development activities,
- a number of additional supplementary projects and concepts resulted from the handling of data and information and from the experience gained in its course.
- The application of the ideotype concept to multipurpose trees,
- the assessment of the relevance of multipurpose tree-yield data,
- and principles and practices of information collection evolved from these activities and the results were published. The development of multipurpose tree- and shrub- crop sheets
- and inventory of multipurpose tree-related data bases are in progress and are pursued with the objective of making available vital data of increasing information value to a wider, professional public.
