An interview schedule with potential participants was arranged ahead of fieldwork, and a team of four field workers was dispatched to collect data in May 2012.
The field workers were local Indonesians who had at least a university degree and extensive experience collecting data on
public health and community issues for non-governmental organizations universities and donors. Although they possessed
ample research experience, the first and third authors trained the team on the research protocol, treatment of human subjects and how to gather rich, valid qualitative data.
