To conclude, this is the first study of cadmium exposure and
diabetes with detailed data on pancreatic beta-cell function,
insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. In this cohort of Scandinavian
Caucasian women with levels known to be linked to
atherosclerosis and bone damage, there were no indications that
such cadmium exposure was associated with increased risk of
type 2 diabetes, or impaired insulin secretion and related
disturbances in glucose and insulin metabolism
