An earthquake expert at Kasetsart University has warned small water reservoirs across Thailand face being seriously damaged in the event of strong tremors.
Suttisak Soralump, of the Geotechnical Engineering Research and Development Centre of Kasetsart University, said most small reservoirs across the country are overseen by local administrations which lack adequate funds for effective safety maintenance.
Thailand has about 5,000 dams. Eighty per cent of them are classified as small reservoirs able to contain about one to two million cubic metres of water, Mr Suttisak said
