Experiment 3. This study was to determine
if 5% coffee grounds could be substituted for
5% sorghum grain in lactating cow rations.
Seventeen lactating Holstein cows were divided
as similarly as possible into two groups according
to milk production, milk fat test, body
weight, and stage of lactation. The cows were
milked twice daily. They were fed in outside
bunks approximately 2.27 kg alfalfa hay (IRN
1-00-097) and 13.61 kg corn silage (IRN 3-08-
154) per head per day, and grain ad libitum.
The quantity of grain fed was adjusted daily depending
on how well the feed had been consumed
on the previous day. An additional quantity
of .91 kg grain was offered to each cow at
milking time in the milking parlor. All amounts
of feed consumed were repotted.
