The staff knew exactly what they were doing. One minute we were in a quiet room with just two nurses, my husband, and the doctor. Once the contractions grew stronger, the nurses instructed my husband to leave the room for a few minutes, while the anesthesiologist came in to administer the epidural. My husband was able to call family members and update them on the delivery. But his exit derailed the pushing phase.

“Wait! Where’s my husband?” I asked.
