He was born 30 March 1853 in Zundert, Netherlands
On 15 September 1866, he went to the new middle school, Willem II College in Tilburg.
In July 1869, his uncle Cent helped him obtain a position with the art dealer Goupil & Cie in The Hague.
On 1 April 1876, Goupil terminated his employment.
His early aspirations was to become a pastor, and from 1879 he worked as a missionary in a mining region in Belgium.
He traveled to Brussels that autumn he attend the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, where he registered on 15 November 1880.
In April 1881, Van Gogh moved to the Etten countryside with his parents, where he continued drawing, often using neighbors as subjects.
In 1885, he painted his first major work, entitled The Potato Eaters.
In March 1886, he moved to Paris and discovered the French Impressionists. Later, he moved to the south of France.
His work grew brighter in color, and he developed the unique and highly recognizable style that became fully realized during his stay in Arles in 1888.
He died on 29 July 1890 (aged 37) in Auvers-sur-Oise, France
