Naturally, Nymphaea nouchali is propagated vegetatively by an erect and unbranched rhizome. In Thailand, there are only two native varieties on day-blooming waterlilies of this species: versicolor and cyanea. The cyanea is locally known as ‘Bua Khap’. Its flower is slightly fragrance. For versicolor, two distinct forms had been found and classified as ‘Bua Phan’ and ‘Bua Phuean’. The flower of this variety has almost no fragrance. In addition, ‘Bua Phan’ generally has a bigger flower than ‘Bua Phuean’ [7], [8].
