Event: Conference on Fostering Entrepreneurial Youth
Date: 11 - 13 November 2014
Place: UNIDO Headquarters, Vienna, Austria,C1, 4th floor, C-building (C04)
Organizer: United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)
Background
Today’s youth are tomorrow’s drivers of entrepreneurial activity in their communities, regions and countries. An increasing number of governments worldwide recognize the importance of investing in an entrepreneurship culture among young people, a crucial foundation for any sustainable and dynamic private sector.
How can education systems and the private sector most effectively promote entrepreneurial attitudes and talent in youth? In order to address this question, a conference on Fostering Entrepreneurial Youth will be held by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with support from the Government of Japan. It expects an attendance of approximately 100 participants from over 30 countries.
Expected results
The conference will provide a platform for policymakers, practitioners, researchers and business representatives to discuss approaches to developing young people’s attitudes, skills and knowledge for an entrepreneurial society. This knowledge-exchange is expected to help governments to develop and improve entrepreneurship curricula and learning initiatives.
Specifically, participants will discuss the following:
• How can entrepreneurial activities contribute to a country’s economic transformation?
• What are the ways to equip teachers with skills that foster youth entrepreneurship?
• How to assess the effectiveness of a country’ entrepreneurship curriculum programme vis-à-vis its development objectives?
• How can the private sector contribute to improving the quality of entrepreneurship education and training?
UNIDO will organize five sessions over three days. The working language of the conference will be English, with French and Portuguese interpretation.
