Projects encapsulating a 67 million tonne capacity expansion for five major Indian ports, totalling a proposed investment of US$751 million, have been announced by the Indian government.
According to The Economic Times, a subsidiary of The Times of India, the shipping ministry has verified that vast investment will be provided for five major ports under a public private partnership (PPP).
Under the PPP model, a staggering forty-four projects are already under construction in India, with investment totalling around US$5 billion, displaying the countries increasing economic prowess.
Reportedly, the latest projects include a dry port for Chennai, the construction of a liquid terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, development of a liquid terminal and operation of container terminal at Kandla Port, storage of bulk cement at Mumbai port, and development of iron ore and multi-cargo berths at Paradip Port, Odisha.
Indiaboasts one of the biggest merchant shipping fleets among developing countries, and is ranked seventeenth overall in the world.
