Instructional implications drawn from this finding
is therefore to put an emphasis on developing students’ interest in integrative
motivation in order to encourage their strengths of motivation but not to the exclusion
of instrumental motivation. This is because these two types of motivation, integrative
motivation and instrumental motivation, were the significant predictors of the students’
desires to continue studying English beyond their fulfillment of the university English

language requirement Taken together all the findings, English as a compulsory course,
integrative motivation as well as instrumental motivation are all important factors to
help students improve their English.
