The Main Menu screen, shown in Fig. 1, displays a “summary of contents” of the system's knowledge base. The chapter numbers and titles are displayed as interactive buttons. The Chapter Menu screen displays a list of all the topics available under a specific chapter. An example Chapter Menu screen is shown in Fig. 2. Hypertext links are established for all the entries of a Chapter Menu screen. The Content Page screens display the information contained in various chapters. The system employs two types of content pages. The first type is displayed when the learner clicks on a hypertext link. “Return” button is the only button provided on this page. The “Return” button takes the learner back to the page from where the hypertext link was established. Use of hypertext links within the system allows the learner to navigate through the system and explore topics of interest on a need-to-know basis.
The system displays a second type of content page when the learner clicks on the “Next” button instead of a hypertext link. The interactive buttons available on the resulting content page are the “Back,” “Next,” “Main Menu,” and “Quit” buttons.
