Although there are different mechanisms in the combine harvester for accomplishing threshing, when one looks at the
overall operation, there are no distinctive differences in the overall harvesting operations (for example, rotary and cylinder-based combines).
--------------------------------------------
For any combine harvester, the cutting, gathering, and feeding mechanisms remain more or less unchanged.

Mesquita and Hanna (1995) reported on the mechanics of soybean threshing. This study was triggered by the findings of Hoag (1972, 1975), who studied the physical and mechanical properties of soybean pod shattering.
--------------------------------------------
Hoag found that only a small amount of energy was necessary to open soybean pods at impact velocities, similar to those of combine harvester’s reel and cutter-bar speeds
