On arrival, ornamental fish should be allowed to recover from transport stress in tanks and acclimate to local water conditions before being distributed to retailers. The acclimation operation includes £oating sealed bags in recovery tanks until the temperature
difference between the transport water and the recovery water is less than 2 1C. This may take about 30 min for atemperature di¡erence of 4^5 1C. The pH and hardness of the recovery water should also be close to the optimal values for the respective species.
